OIDSurviving the First Quarter of Teaching

Before the quarter starts

Are you nervous about your first quarter of teaching? This section covers how to prepare for the first day and beyond. Topics include: bridging the gap between faculty and students, managing classroom dynamics, handling academic dishonesty, and grasping the TA's role in undergraduate education.

Participants will also take home practical skills such as best practices for syllabus and section policy sheet design.

Josh Samani (Physics), Neel Tiruviluamala (Math), Brian Bernards (Asian Languages and Cultures), Corey O'Malley (Sociology) talk about thoughts before the first day.

Getting Organized

New TAs will no doubt feel at least uncertain and at worst overwhelmed at some point before teaching the first class. The information in this section will help smooth pre-teaching jitters by making sure you are prepared for the first class and beyond.
